Certainly it is not an understatement to say that Zip can be denoted as one of the most inspired innovators in contemporary electronic dance music. A character of ingenuity, and provided with a smart sense of humour, you see him constantly tapping the full potential of his outstanding talents as a producer and DJ on likewise popular and insider events. A man of surprises, he welcomes his audience to join him on a musical journey of many wonders. Zip's releases and performances influenced modern club culture to a high degree, and they still do. By co-founding the visionary Perlon label together with his music companion Markus Nikolai in 1997, they sowed a new, dynamic kind of sound on the dancefloors that soon should blossom into an own genre and become favoured among the dancing crowd all over the world. Born Thomas Franzmann in Oberhausen/Germany in the nineteen-seventies, Zip started his music career by joining the Synth Pop band Second Voice as a lead singer in 1986, which was also the year of their debut release. The following two years saw the band touring in Germany and Switzerland and releasing their second album which gained support by "New Life" magazine. Their success called the attention of renowned Swiss producer and sound creator Carlos Peron (ex-Yello): He offered a co-operation and a record deal which was maintained from 1989 to 1991, resulting in the release of two 12"EPs. After the breakup of this production team, Second Life found a new distribution partner with Hyperium Records. Until the band split in 1992, they released two more 12"EPs and two albums.
